R-value is the measure of the thermal resistance of a material giving us a way to test how temperature flows through a given material. In building and construction, R-value represents a rating system on thermal performance which indicates how well a building is insulated. Typically, in Australia we insulate our roof, floors and walls and often overlook our windows where up to 25% of our heating and cooling is lost.
If you want to increase the R-value (insulation) of your windows, then Amaru’s Thermacell cellular blinds offer the best and most cost-effective solution over any other window covering on the market today. Book a free in-home consultation with one of our experienced and professional team members and ask to view our R-value reports as well as our extensive range of fabrics and colours.
Test results have been conducted by the textile research institute and variations can occur between colours.

Cellular blinds, also called honeycomb blinds, are an energy-efficient window covering used to block or filter sunlight while also insulating windows, helping to reduce the costs of heating, and cooling your home.
Cellular shades are constructed with honeycomb-shaped air pockets or cells, these cells hold trapped air creating a barrier between a window's surface and the room, reducing the transfer of heat in or out of your home.
Yes. Cellular blinds are often referred to as honeycomb blinds because the air pockets' shape resembles the honeycomb of a beehive. The Thermacell range is exclusive to Amaru.
A single Amaru Thermacell blind can be custom made to cover windows of any size up to 3000mm wide by 3000mm drop. For larger windows, coverage is achieved by evenly butting blinds together with minimal gaps.
Thermacell cellular blinds are reasonably priced and comparable in cost to many in our roller blind range. Due to their passive insulating properties, Thermacell blinds represent a great return on investment by helping to reduce your heating and cooling costs.
Generally, it takes 2-4 weeks to custom make and install your new Amaru blinds; however, this may vary depending on the time of year or demand at the time of order. Your décor consultant will give you a more accurate time when providing your free measure and quote.
Dusting Cellular Blinds - Regularly gently run your vacuum fitted with a soft brush head or upholstery attachment over your blinds to remove surface dust. Do not use regular floor attachments; these may mark or damage your blinds.
Removing Marks from Cellular Blinds - Mix a small amount of mild detergent (make sure it does not contain bleach) with warm water. Using a non-abrasive microfiber cloth carefully blot the marked area to remove the stain. DO NOT SCRUB FABRIC.
Clearing Blocked Cells - Although very rare, occasionally an insect or child's toy might find its way into a cell pocket. If this happens, use a hairdryer, on cool high-speed setting to blow any obstruction out the other side of the cell pocket.
