Commonly referred to as wooden plantation shutters, a timber window shutter is a classic and versatile window covering. Timber shutters on Melbourne homes are timelessly elegant as well as being practical in providing protection and privacy.
Amaru's custom hardwood shutters are made with sustainably sourced plantation timber and built to last.
To ensure that your wood shutters are long lasting and durable, we have a variety of finishes to choose from:
Our custom wooden shutters can be operated using a number of opening combinations:
Timber plantation shutters provide excellent control over sunlight and privacy in your home by adjusting the louvres to your desired angle. Amaru offers various options for the window louvre control arm's placement, from panel centre, side or completely hidden from view.
Angling the wooden louvres during the day allows you to control the amount and direction of sunlight in a room while still maintaining natural ventilation and privacy.
Closing louvre shutters completely at night will block most of the light coming in or out of your home, as well as provide complete privacy and improved insulation.
Wooden window shutters suit almost any room in the home, practical and versatile they can dress a room up or down. White wooden shutters provide an airy coastal aesthetic for casual living spaces. Dark rich natural wood tones create a warm, sophisticated and formal look. Add a touch of shabby chic with internal timber bedroom shutters or fit external aluminium shutters to give a homestead appeal to your home.
Made with kiln-dried hardwood these shutters are suitable for most wet areas like bathrooms, kitchen and laundry.
We have a variety of additional features and options that can be added to your timber shutter. Speak with your consultant to see what is possible with your choice of finish and operation.
Plantation timber is one of our most versatile, renewable and natural resources. Timber stores carbon, is hardwearing, insulating and ultimately biodegradable. Amaru only uses sustainably farmed timber in our custom wooden window shutters.
With no cords or chains to get tangled up in, choosing timber shutters for your windows is a smart and safe option for homes with children and pets.
Our custom-made shutters come in a large range of window frame sizes with a choice three louvre widths (63mm, 89mm and 114mm) to create the perfect looking wood shutter to suit your home and decor.
Amaru only employ reliable trade qualified installers to fit our wooden window shutters in Melbourne and Canberra, so you can have complete confidence they will turn up on time and know how to install your shutters safely and correctly.
Amaru only use the finest quality paints, stains and lacquers on our home shutters. If we don’t have the colour you want in our standard range we can custom tint for the perfect shade for your painted window shutters.
Amaru use high quality plantation hardwood that has been kiln dried and moisture tested to make hardwearing interior shutters that are less prone to movement or warping.
Not easily, but timber being a natural product can potentially warp especially if the shutters are exposed to high humidity or dramatic fluctuations in temperature. Amaru uses quality hardwood that has been kiln-dried to reduce the moisture content, correct milling techniques and premium finishing systems to dramatically reduce the chance if you buy our timber shutters that they will warp, shrink or split. Should your shutter paint get chipped, it can be easily touched up.
After visiting your home and measuring your windows and selecting your window covering style and finish, your Amaru décor consultant will quote our best timber shutters price. Once you place your order we will mill, manufacture and finish your shutters to your exact specifications before one of ourreliable trade qualified installers returns to fit them. It takes time to craft quality so allow approximately 6 – 8 weeks from the time you place your order to installation.
Amaru have custom timber shutters for salein both Melbourne and Canberra. We have showrooms in both Melbourne and Canberra or you can book an in-home measure and quote for Melbourne Metro & Surrounds - including the Mornington Peninsula and Canberra & Surrounds.
To maintain your interior timber shutters and keep them looking their best regularly dust the louvres with a static or feather duster to remove surface dust. Run the duster across starting at the topmost slat to bottom.
Do not use bleach or harsh detergents on white or painted timber shutters, if you notice any marks these can be spot cleaned using a lightly damp micro fibre cloth and a mild detergent made for cleaning painted surfaces.
For natural timber shutters condition the wood with a light coat of beeswax furniture polish twice a year.
For external wooden shutters periodically gently hose off surface dust and debris, do not use a high pressure washer as this can damage the wood and strip off the finish. If your outdoor timber shutters have become coated with thick layer of dirt, this can be removed with a lightly damp micro fibre cloth and a mild detergent made for cleaning painted surfaces.
